About Us
Nu Bowl Lanes has a rich history, being the premier bowling alley in the city of Mount Vernon, Illinois. We have been a part of the community since 1963 when we opened as a 16 lane bowling center. In 1964, 12 more lanes were added to give us the present day 28 lane bowling center.
We have been a home to many leagues and tournaments over the years. Company and Fraternal organizations have played a big part of leagues, and state and local tournaments. We are also proud to host the Little Egypt Ladies Tournament. Over 3 weekends in the spring, as many as 3000 ladies will come to Mt. Vernon to bowl, shop, and eat.
In 1973 a cocktail lounge was added to Nu Bowl Lanes. The Strike Zone Lounge offers soda, beer, mixed drinks and lots of snacks. You will also find a pool table, jukebox, and dart machines in the Strike Zone Lounge.
Over the years we have tried to stay with the times. In 1988 automatic score computers were installed. In June of 1989 we went through a fire and completely remodeled. In 2000 we installed a stereo system and Color Glow Lights (Disco Lights for the older generation.) This has added a whole new dimension to bowling for the younger generation. In May of 2004 a new scoring system replaced the outdated system. The new computers feature a lot of animation, colorful appeal and is consumer friendly.
Nu Bowl also has plenty of entertainment for the entire family to enjoy. Kids will enjoy all of Nu Bowl's video games and pinball machines located in the new Game Room, which was added in 2009. A new Party Room was also added the same year, able to accomodate even the largest get-together.
In addition to providing hours of entertainment, we are also your one-stop shop for the newest bowling gear. Our Pro Bowl Shop offers the best supply of bowling equipment in the area. From bowling balls to shoes and bags, we've got what you are looking for.
